Summers are filled with music festivals, concerts, summer music programs and workshops.

Attending summer music programs were hugely motivating for me.  Summers at Rider University (Westminster Choir College) in Princeton offered technique and performance classes with great teaching.  A highlight of performing vocal jazz at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo was working with some of the best in America.  Summers of teaching vocal jazz at U of C,  conducting choirs at MusiCamrose and Naramata in B.C. were great opportunities to work with excellent Alberta musicians.   At Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, our daughter participated in a superb musical theatre intensive.  She continues to meet up with some of her classmates from Pittsburgh in theatre in NYC.  Great teaching, talented participants and creative settings inspire best outcomes.

In Calgary, I’m interested in providing singers and performers the teachings and inspirations I received when I attended those summer workshops.  For me, it’s music for life.

Summertime Vocal Workshops for ages 9 – 14 years and 15 years – Adult happen in August.

Inside the workshop, we’ll focus on vocal styles, skill sets for the singer, how to make a song come alive in performance, songwriting, mic technique, the zone of performance, auditioning, overcoming nervousness and great songs – all in a creative environment.  It’s a fun workshop.  It will inspire and challenge you at whatever your musical background.

Participating in this workshop is a great way to prep for the fall if you perform in an ensemble, a band or church choir.  The workshop will help you with auditioning, singing in open mics, technique and performance.  And it’s inspiring if you just love to sing.

Ages 9 – 14 years: 10 am – noon (daily Aug 10 – 14)

Ages 15 – Adult: 7 pm – 9 pm (evenings Aug 10 – 14)

Open mic at 9 pm – 10 pm each night for participants

WHERE: Shaganappi Hall, 2516 – 14th Ave SW, Calgary
